I am fortunate to have many friends from across the pond. Many of these lovely ladies from the UK are a wonderful inspiration to me not only for their talent, but for their kindness. They often take the time to leave me words of friendship and encouragement and, well, darn it - we just seem to like all of the same things too.
One of the many things I adore about them is the words they often use, which I find truly help them to express themselves so completely perfectly. Among my faves are "fabby", "hols", "pants", "bonce" and my favorite of all - "chuffed". Oh my, isn't that the most perfect word? It means to be "pleased", but doesn't it sound so very much better to say "I am most chuffed..." than to say "I am pleased..."? There is no comparison.
So now I often find myself thinking the word when I am out and about and find an amazing treasure at the thrift shop. I walk out thinking that I am most chuffed with myself for finding it. (Please excuse my clumsy use of the word my Friends.) But I never, ever use it out loud. It would most likely sound very silly coming from me.
"Chuffed" and a New York accent are just not meant to be.
I will use it only once, right now, so that I may share some things with you.
Some happy things that I am chuffed to bits about today...
My owl necklace from the 70's found at an estate sale.
The "Liberty Book of Home Sewing" that I just received and have wanted for quite a while.
So many lovely projects!!
My wonderful brand spanking new Sailor Jerry tank top, which I have wanted for some time...
...and the pretty tissue paper it came wrapped up in, which, ironically, looks very, very similar to the new tattoo that I recently got.
A stack of lovely vintage doilies from a recent estate sale...
...together with pretty little words to carry with me through the day.
I hope you have many, many things to be chuffed about today my Friends!
Much Love,
Helena
