About a week ago, I purchased a hat mannequin to use for modeling in my Etsy store (hint, hint). The mannequin is really quite pretty with a painted face, real eyelashes and a completely bald head. I'm not sure yet if I will put a wig on her when she models, or if the bald head won't matter once a hat is on, but that remains to be seen. I had her sitting on one of my work tables, when a few days ago, My Girl spotted her. She cried out in utter joy and begged to play with her.
Immediately she decided the mannequin must have a name, so we went and looked up girls' names on the internet, and, after scanning the list, she picked the not-so-very-exotic name "Lisa", because that's the same name as the girl in Corduroy, a book My Girl loves. Well, so far, Lisa has hung out on the couch and watched DVD's, played on the computer, snuggled under blankets and read books, and has been taught the right way to do things.
Meanwhile Lisa totally creeps out Jim. He hates any kind of doll or decorative item with a plastic face. Think Talky Tina. I have this large Santa figure with a vinyl face that I put out every Christmas. Jim is convinced that it will come alive during the night and attack him. Not very jolly.
Anyway, I'm sure Lisa will phase out pretty quickly, but until then, it's nice to know that sometimes you can find a friend when you least expect to.
